Two weeks ago I was talking to an Australian IT manager for an Australian bank.
She was a seasoned IT manager.
I knew this because I had interviewed her for the job a few years earlier.
And the experience that she had in her career had shaped her mindset about how to manage a company that would provide the job to a large number of people.
She had already been a senior manager of IT at an international bank.
And her experience in IT management had given her a better understanding of the challenges that IT managers face.
As I was explaining to her what she should do in her new role, I realised I was making a mistake.
The IT manager had not taken into account the big picture.
She didn’t understand how the IT system could be upgraded to run on new software and how to ensure that the system was kept secure.
So I made the mistake of asking her what I could learn from my experience.
It wasn’t just about managing the IT systems, I said.
It was about managing people and learning how to build a team that was more agile and flexible.
She smiled and said, “Well, it’s not like that.”
But the experience she had helped to build her confidence about what IT management could be and what the IT people who worked with it should be was an invaluable resource.
So what are the best IT management courses?
We know that you have to have a degree in a subject, and you need to be able to work with people.
But what do you learn from that experience?
And what do IT management programmes provide that you don’t already have?
The most important thing you can learn is how to understand the big questions that are affecting the world.
When we’re trying to make a decision about whether or not we’re going to build an infrastructure, what is the best way to get it running in a timely way?
When you are in a boardroom and you’re making decisions, you need a clear understanding of what’s going to happen next.
That is the foundation of what you need in an IT management course.
The course will build that understanding, so you can better respond to the questions you have when you make decisions.
And it’s a good way to start learning.
The way you learn is not by taking a course, but by talking to people.
And when you talk to people, you have more time to think about your answers, so it makes it easier to make better decisions.
If you want to work on an IT team, you’ll need to have at least one other person in the team who has a similar mindset.
So you need two or three other people with similar skills to be a good IT manager, so that you can work with them to build relationships and build trust.
I started with the IT management training at the University of Adelaide and I’ve been on the IT teams at a number of Australian banks and a number US banks.
In fact, at the time I started, the US was the largest employer of IT managers in the world, so the University was a huge help.
I had the opportunity to train a team of 30 people in the US, so I got a lot of experience with IT and I had a lot more confidence than I would have had working alone.
I thought the training at Australian banks would be the same.
I think there was a certain amount of scepticism about how well a course at an Australian university could prepare people for what they might be doing in the UK, for example.
But it has been fantastic.
There have been a few people who have gone back to the UK and said they would not be back there.
There’s also been a lot less scepticism when they are learning about how the UK’s IT system works.
There are more organisations in the EU that are taking on this role, and the more people who learn about it the better.
The most crucial thing I learned from the training was that we have to make sure we are not giving people the wrong ideas about what they need to do in their IT jobs.
We need to learn how to communicate with each other, how to work in teams and what they should be doing.
And there are other things to learn too.
One of the biggest mistakes that people make in IT is not talking about IT as a technical subject, because that is not what people are thinking.
So if you want people to take on the roles of IT manager and IT architect and have all these different skills, you might as well go into the field.
The key thing to learn is to not only understand what IT is, but also what IT does, so as to understand what we can do about it.
If I were in the IT business today, I would look at the software that we use in the business and ask myself what is it that is making it successful?
If you look at what the people in that business are doing with it, you can see that there is a great deal of thinking about what is possible.
